Our clients brief us on the nature of the project and provide us with as much direction as they can. We request competitive data, specifications, intended use, lifespan, durability, etc. If the client needs assistance defining parameters, we take field trips and do research to discover what's already in the marketplace. What are the existing solutions? If it's an entirely new product, we simply ask people for their opinions about the validity of the proposed solution or idea until a framework appears that will provide us with useful and meaningful parameters for the project.

2. Analysis
We examine the data at our disposal. Is the idea truly viable? What are the strengths and weaknesses of competitive offerings? How can the weaknesses be addressed? What new features be added to create a compelling alternative to the consumer? How can value and function be improved upon in a meaningful and significant way? Can new technologies be leveraged in any way? How can sustainability be incorporated into the design? What is the essence of the idea, and how can it be expressed simply and beautifully?

With a good feel for the project, we begin a visual dialog with the client using sketches, CAD models and renderings to explore as many different approaches as possible, eventually arriving at a final design. At this point, we either hand off the documented design to the client for further development, or we can recommend our production partners to initiate the production of appearance prototypes, working prototypes, and eventual production and support of the final design.
